Laminate Wood Flooring
The great aspect about our various different finishes laminate flooring is that it looks like regular wood but is much easier to install. It also has a longer shelf life. The striking similarity between hardwood and laminate flooring is confusing. You can notice a grain pattern similar to wood but this is décor paper placed under a highly protective cover. This is stuck onto a backing board of tough density. There is a multitude of effects such as ceramic and stone available in laminate flooring.
One of the biggest advantages about laminate flooring is that it is very durable, easy in installation and cheaper in price in comparison with hardwood. The other advantage is that laminate flooring is not stuck to the floor beneath. Only panels are stuck together. Thus, it facilitates installation in an easy manner.
The HPL or high-pressure laminate represents a better choice. It is tougher, provides more stability and is resistant to scratches or dents. The durable high performance of layers not only protects the surface but also avoids fading, staining and scuffs.
The special decorative sheets have beautiful designs and these are available in natural wood grain finishes. The special Kraft sheets are treated with phenol materials. Hence, these layers are resistant to high impacts. In addition, these sheets also offer sound insulation.
The treatment of an emulsion of hot oil wax and penetrating sealing of the seams helps insulate the HDF fibres from moisture. The high density of the fibreboard not only provides appropriate high quality structure but also resists moisture seeping into the fibres. The sheets of the HPL flooring are made of a balancing material, which is a similar material as the regular floor surface. Since this is comprised of a similar material as the actual flooring the panels level well with each other and installation is perfect.
Laminate flooring refers to a composite product that features several layers, with each one specifically designed to serve a particular purpose. One layer is for shock absorption, another is for sound proofing, another is for moisture protection, etc. Laminate flooring looks pretty much the same as regular wood, but it offers ease of installation, maintenance and remarkable durability.
At present, laminate flooring is the fastest growing floor type in Australia. It is manufactured using two techniques: High Pressure Laminate (HPL) and Direct Pressure Laminate (DPL). The former is composed of at least five layers while the latter is made up of three layers. HPL is by far the more superior type because it is more durable, resistant to fading, dents and stains. These features are largely due to the integration of phenol-treated kraft sheets during the production process. HPL carries a heftier price tag that’s why some households are opting for the DPL variant. However, if you want a floor which can effectively withstand the abuse from active children and pets and still look great after a decade, then HPL is the best choice.
The composition of the core material is also a critical factor. Excellent laminate flooring is built using High Density Fibreboard (HDF) as the core material. HDF is treated with an emulsion of hot oil wax, paraffin wax and other water repellent chemicals, giving it exceptional stability and high degree of water resistance. Recent developments have added bevelled edges and textured surfaces, giving the flooring the appeal, look and feel of authentic hardwood.
Another excellent feature of laminate flooring is that it provides more choices than other flooring types. It now comes in varying widths and offers a wide array of design options as well as wood effects. It is now widely regarded as the best option for flooring needs because of its wide selection and the relative ease of installation. You are almost guaranteed that laminate flooring will deliver the look and appeal that you truly desire for your home. With a multitude of wood grains, designs and stains, there is likely to be something that will meet even the most discerning homeowners.
